At Rendcomb, we expect that the vast majority of our students will go on after A Levels/BTECs to Higher Education at university. The choice for students is enormous and we help students to make that choice through a comprehensive planning programme.

Year 10 and 11

Students are made aware of the implications of their A Level choices for future intentions – both for a degree course and a future career. Students are encouraged to consider subjects at a Taster Day which we hold in the Summer Term for Year 10 pupils and discuss subjects at the evening event we hold for pupils and parents in the Michaelmas Term in Year 11.

Sixth Form

From January in Year 12, students have a weekly career lesson to consider their future and prepare them for their next steps. We use Unifrog, a careers platform, and students use this to research a variety of UK university courses and apprenticeships, as well as exploring alternative post-18 pathways such as US or European universities. In addition, students record activities and competencies, building up a profile of attributes and experiences that bolster a student's higher education or apprenticeship application. These lessons also encourage students to create a CV and to arrange work experience for the summer. 

Year 12 culminates in 'Moving On' week for the final full week of the Summer Term. This comprises a week of enriching sessions preparing students for their post-18 route. Sessions vary slightly from year to year, but include a university open day visit, a community action project, leadership and employability workshops, interview practice, a personal statement workshop, and sessions on applying to university, choosing apprenticeships and gap years. Students will have registered on UCAS by the end of the week, and begun a personal statement, putting them in a strong position for making a higher education application early in the Michaelmas term of Year 13. 

In Year 13 students are supported at every stage to submit their UCAS application in the Michaelmas Term. Subsequently, students are advised on considering their offers and making sensible firm and insurance decisions. Students are also advised on student finance and, in sessions with their tutor, will become informed about tuition fees, student loans, current accounts and budgeting to best prepare them for the greater degree of financial independence they will experience when they leave Rendcomb College. The support provided by the Sixth Form team continues on results day when staff are available to provide last minute assistance in decision-making.
