It’s an exciting year for Rendcomb College in 2020, as we celebrate 100 years as a leading independent school.

How wonderfully fitting it is that we will start this milestone year with the official opening of our new sixth form centre!

It’s a highly appropriate signal that Rendcomb College does not rest on its laurels.

Our past and future in perfect synergy

We are proud to have a century of superb results and successful alumni as a testimony to our success. However, we are still constantly striving for improvements in our facilities, education, care and impact.

As an independent school, we believe in moulding together traditional and emerging learning and nurturing technique. It all adds up to us being on a learning journey too, constantly finding new ways to release the full potential of every individual child in our care.

This blending of ‘old and new’ is also manifested in this latest structural change at our Cotswold boarding and day school.

Our new purpose designed sixth form centre has been sympathetically constructed inside a Grade II listed Old Rectory building in the centre of our campus.

Why did we need a new sixth form centre?

This development will enable Rendcomb College to further enhance our value to senior students, as well as our capacity to provide places within Years 11 and 12.

We are confident that senior boarding and day places at this leading private school will continue to be in demand. Not least as in recent years we have seen record achievements at GCSE and our value-added A-level scores are amongst the best in England.

Word is spreading fast. When seeking an independent nursery, primary or secondary school that develops ‘thoughtful, adventurous and academically ambitious young people’, increasingly Rendcomb College is at the forefront.

What’s included in this new private sixth form centre?

Our Senior residential facilities are carefully designed to offer older students the best possible levels of privacy, comfort and enjoyment. Which naturally means we were keen to make sure the new Sixth Form Centre at Rendcomb College meets the specific needs of 17 to 18-year-olds.

It has been designed to be a blend of common areas for collaboration and shared study, with quiet places for private working. There will be greater flexibility to offer some A-level lessons within this new facility, to free classroom space elsewhere and give seniors their own learning ‘space’.

Of course, this age group needs social interaction too! So, the sixth form centre offers self-managed areas where older students can mingle with friends, as well as kitchen and coffee bar facilities for them to fuel up for their studies.

Our ethos is to provide all students – especially seniors – with opportunities to develop a sense of self and responsibility. So, time outside lessons will offer a degree of freedom. However, there will be staff on hand to oversee aspects of life in the new sixth form centre. Both the Head and Assistant Head of Sixth Form at Rendcomb College will have offices on the ground floor of the new centre.

Choosing the best sixth form experience for your child

The ways to judge the best sixth form college for your child don’t simply rely on statistics and league tables.

Years 11 and 12 in secondary education need to offer the right teaching support to equip young people thoroughly for university or the workplace. The UK’s leading sixth forms need to offer opportunities to develop personal confidence and resilience for example, as well as interpersonal and communication skills.

We believe the way this new facility has been envisioned support the work we already do, to invest in all aspects of our senior students’ development.

Programme of improvements

Providing senior students with purpose-designed study and social facilities is the latest in a series of substantial investments in Rendcomb College facilities. In the past year, we have improved our sports, fitness and Science environments.

As we go into our centennial year, it's exciting to contemplate what’s next for the school!
