Padel Competition

Year 9 pupil Charlotte Brien has represented Great Britain in the Junior World Padel Championships in Spain last month.
Charlotte represented Great Britain in the international tournament with her partner Matilda, competing in the under 14 competition which runs October 9-15.
The competition, held in Malaga, played host to a number of teams from around the world including Brazil, Mexico and Belgium with the winning team named the best in the world at U14 level.
The World Junior Padel Championships is the largest international junior’s event for padel. Every two years the world’s top boys and girls from each nation compete against each other representing their nations.
With the sport only recently gaining interest in Britain, this is the second time Team GB have been able to field a team in the junior championships.
To top off what will be an amazing experience for Charlotte, she also had the privilege of being named the flag bearer for Team GB taking centre stage at the opening ceremony.
The sport of Padel originated in Mexico in the 1960’s and came to life in Britain in 1992 with the first team entered into the World Championships. The British Padel Association was set up in 2006 and has received major investment in 2011 and 2017 to set up over 40 courts nationwide, with the aim to further promote the sport on a universal basis.
