The Rendcomb College Parents’ Association (RCPA) has facilitated the purchase of a brand new Yamaha Clavinova CLP 665 digital baby grand piano for the school which is on show in the foyer of Rendcomb College’s state-of-the-art performing arts centre, the Griffin Theatre.

Director of Music, Dr Tom Edwards, said: “The RCPA’s recent kind and extremely generous grant to the music department has allowed us to purchase a new digital baby grand piano in a beautiful polished ebony case.

“The new piano has been installed in the gallery overlooking the foyer of the Griffin Theatre, and it commands wonderful views over the picturesque school grounds.”

The installation of the piano allows the foyer to be used as a breakout rehearsal, performance, and teaching space further expanding on the Griffin Theatres facilities.

“The piano will be played publicly for the first time at the opening night of the whole school musical, Les Misérables, on 6th December 2017, as guests arrive and during the interval.”

While being its first public use, the piano has already seen significant service, Dr Edwards added: “The piano and the gallery were used as a warm up and practice space for the recent Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) exams, and has been extensively used for music and chorus rehearsals for this term’s production.”

“This latest addition to the College’s Music Department further extends the excellent facilities we have on offer, and will allow us to further develop the Griffin Theatre as a focus for musical and dramatic excellence at the very heart of the school.”
