Rendcomb College Junior School Gymnastics

Rendcomb College Junior School welcomed Michelle Oakey from Super Star Gymnastics to lead an introductory workshop.
From September 2019, all Junior School pupils from Reception to Year 6 will be able to sign up to a new after school Gymnastics Club and were given the opportunity to have a taster session with Michelle. The children showed off their current skills and had the opportunity to learn new ones.
The focus of the session was to develop agility, balance, strength and co-ordination through a diverse new gymnastics curriculum. Challenging the perceptions of basic floor work, Super Star Gymnastics aims to deliver an exciting block of sessions focusing on different tumbling and vaulting skills. The company have a variety of equipment available so they can cater for both complete beginners and advanced competing gymnasts.
Head Coach Michelle is a Level 4 National Gymnastics and Tumbling coach and fully qualified Physical Education teacher. She has experience teaching children and young adults and has regularly taken senior school clubs to the National Schools Gymnastics finals with teams winning in 2014 and 2016.
Michelle said: “We work through British Gymnastics proficiency awards in which children acquire 10 different gymnastics skills over the weeks to earn British Gymnastics badges and certificates. The levels are all differentiated and as such, children will be correctly challenged.”
