Careers Event Held for Junior Pupils

Junior School pupils at Rendcomb College took part in a Careers Carousel today to launch the school’s new Future Careers initiative.

The children, who are in Year 5 and 6, took part in talks and demonstrations from a range of professions including savings and investments with St. James’s Place Wealth Management, property and surveying with P2 Surveyors, British Airways, and land management, farming and gamekeeping.

Ewen Harris (pictured below), Senior Partner at St. James’s Place and owner of Ewen Harris Wealth Management said: “This is all about giving something back. The event is a real opportunity to embed a seed of belief at such an impressionable stage in a young person’s life.”

Victoria Beevers, Head of Juniors at Rendcomb College said: “Today’s event is the start of a programme of careers advice and guidance for our pupils. They are on the brink of moving up to our Senior School and soon they will face important decisions about subject choices and their future. This programme will enable them to be wise in their decision making and to be able to consider a range of options.”

Each visiting professional tailored their presentation for the pupils. Pupils learnt to trade with sweets, build walls with LEGO, and were able to view a pilot’s real-time flight rosta and read the weather forecast. The age 9 to 11 pupils were particularly taken by the 3-day-old pheasants which they were each able to hold during the gamekeeping session.
