Choristers set to perform at first Fleece Fayre

Choristers at Rendcomb College will be performing at the first Cirencester Fleece Fayre this May Day Bank Holiday on Monday, 1 May.

Rendcomb College ChoristersThe Schola Cantorum, which is made up of girls and boys in Years 8 and 9, will be singing extracts from John Rutter’s A Sprig of Thyme led by Director of Music, Dr Tom Edwards, at 2pm in the Parish Church.

Speaking about the upcoming event, Dr Edwards said: “I am delighted that Rendcomb College has been invited to take part in the Fleece Fayre and that we have the opportunity to show case some of our fine young musicians and further strengthen our relationship with the local community and the wonderful Parish Church.”

The Fleece Fayre, organised by Cirencester Town Council in partnership with Abbey 900, is set to celebrate Cirencester and the history of the wool trade in the beautiful market town. There will be a medieval fayre, dancing and entertainment with a modern twist on all things sheep and wool.

St John the Baptist Parish Church, which is located on the Market Place, is often referred to as the ‘Cathedral of the Cotswolds’ and was largely rebuilt in 1515-1530 funded by the wealth attained by the local wool merchants. Sheep, wool sales, weaving and cloth-making were the main strengths of England's trade in the Middle Ages, and many Cirencester merchants and clothiers gained wealth and prosperity from the national and international trade.

The Fayre will take place around Market Place, Parish Church and entrance to the Abbey Grounds from 10.00am - 5.00pm.
